Its been a while.... 11/22/2009
I know, I know I have really kept this updated lately. So I will just give you some highlights from this last week...... Below is a pic of the women I have been doing a Bible Study with this past month. They currently attend Kampala International University. I will also be leading their Bible Study next semester. I think we will be doing "Forgotten God" by Francis Chan. Last Wednesday was our last time meeting for the rest of the year. And we were in Galatians 5 where it says "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires." (verse 24) So I had them nail their sinful desires and passions that were hindering their relationship with God to a Cross. It was a great time, the women took it seriously and I think it really gave them a tangiable way in understanding that concept of giving those things to the Lord that put a road block in our relationship with Him. This week I was able to go to a Ballet, but it was in rare form. I went with a bunch of my girlfriends. Betsy who was on my left said to me "I have no clue what is going on", while Jill who was on my right said "This is so good". The key word here is contemporary....it sure was, I don't think I saw one ballet move in the whole show. But it was a depiction of the Invisible Children and what they went through. It was moving and we also got to hear a testimony of someone who use to be a victim of those harsh war times. If you do not know much bout the Invisible Children just make a quick visit to www.invisiblechildren.com Then on Thursday I had the opportunity to go to a prison and minister with the women. This paticular prison had 160 men and 15 women. I went with some women on a week mission trip and she preached the Word and 7 women accepted Chrsit, can I get an AMEN, and we split up and prayed with them and handed them some discipleship material. Some women where in there cause of asult, their husbands brought home other women. What happens is the men call the police and the police bring them in (even if they were innocent) and they wait at this location for their court date. Sad and unfair I know. Half way through our visit it started to pour down raining and as we were leaving we had to make it through the muddy courtyard, and what do you think happened to Stumbalina (my nickname from my dad)? I took a dive right in the mud infront of all the prisoners, I am sure they got a great show. On Friday I went to a food distribution and below is the 80lbs bag that the women would carry to their homes. It contains: 15 kilos of rice, 15 kilos of posho (a form of grits), and 15 kilos of beans. After we handed out the bags of food we all split up and visited the people we gave food to in their homes and was able to present the Gospel to them. Achili Hakin (below) use to be a Muslim and accepted Christ. Can I get another AMEN? AMEN! "in all that you do, do it unto the Lord and not unto men" Shanna's Shout Out from Africa 11/16/2009

Wut is your results? Blanket of security…. 10/07/2009
Everyone has one. Whether it be a real blanket, a pillow, a childhood teddy bear, or something similar. We all have that physical object that we cling to when we need that soothing feeling of comfort and security. But me, I feel as though mine was ripped from me as soon as I stepped on the African soil. Before you jump to conclusions, I am not saying I hate it here by no means. Your security blanket is something and sometimes someone you turn to caress your check and have them whisper in your ear everything is going to be alright. An object that you clinch within your grasp and an feeling of peace overcomes you. I can’t wait to put foot on American soil and be in the arms of my earthly father who will hold me tight and whisper in my ear I am here everything is gonna be all right. You see here in Africa you are chin deep in pain, despair, hopelessness, lostness, corruptness, death, disorder, disease and you know it’s not gonna be alright. You wanna help so many people but can barely make it to the throne yourself. How can this one single female from America bring a Nation to their knees and meet the Father when it take a ton to get her there herself. Knowing I cannot bring food and medicine to all those in need. Knowing I cannot hold every child who is not only dying of starvation but dying of neglect cause there is no one to take care of them and tell them they love them. Knowing I can’t even make it out my house to bring them the Good News for I am paralyzed by not having my security blanket here. How can I be Jesus to the people of Kampala (even without my blanket of security)? The prayer American refuse to pray 10/02/2009

Yea thats right you read that right, rat -cat- attack! There is a rat that is probably bigger than a cat that lives on our compound. I have heard stories of it eating the neighbors cat food, and it was in our trash. Now the whole in the trash bag was not a small rat hole but a large animal hole. My roomie (Jill) laid eyes on it the other night and it freaked her out so bad that the night guard came running to aid her and found that she was startled by the mere size of this rat. So the other night we heard a cat fight and we are pretty sure that the rat was attacking the cat not the other way around. I havnt seen the cat in a while, but i will be on the look out to see how badly it got hurt or even if it still alive. Meanwhile I am looking to name this hidious beast...got any ideas? P.S. I will try my hardest to get a pick to show you I am not blowing this outta proportion. |
