Today’s assignment was to go find a ‘traditional healer’ Here in Africa if they clinic cannot cure you then they would seek out a ‘traditional healer’, they use witch craft. On our way we met a lady who we sat down with and asked questions about health care in Africa and during our time with her we found out that she was a Christian and she said something that I will never forget: “There are two things in life, Birth and Death, we are just waiting for eternity”. Africa is just fighting to survive, their hope is in spending eternity with God in heaven. I pray that I might to bring the hope of eternity to those who have no hope.
After an hour of searching we finally found the ‘traditional healer’ and we sat down with him and asked him some questions and he told us his life story. He said to us that when he was a young boy he got lost in the forest for seven years then after seven years he finally found his parents again and began his new profession of being a ‘traditional healer’. We asked him how does he know what roots and trees to use to heal people and he said, ‘oh the spirits tell me’. Then we asked where are the spirit and he said, ‘in the house’. The fact of the matter is that he is probably telling the truth and there were probably real spirits in the house behind us. Here in Africa we are in a different kind of battle field. Today I felt like I was watching a TV show, but it was reality.
