On Monday nights I try to attend a Bible study at the University as often as I can. I have made some great friends, they are genuine and only want my friendship and that is so refreshing. So after the study tonight it was Esthers bday...25....she said I paved the way for her! I was the only white gurl in a room of 40. The party was held in one of the students apartment that was no bigger than a kitchen, so we circled up and let the games begin. They had us draw a piece of paper outta bowl and do whatever it said...the firt person pull one out and it read "say 1-10 backwards and super fast". I was like I can do it if they all end up like this...but then the 2nd was pulled and it read "go to a person of the opposite sex and make an convincing pass at them". At that moment I prayed that I wouldnt get picked....being the only white person was enough. But eventually I did get picked so I reluctantly went and drew a paper, and it read "give the bday girl the present you brought"....crap...I didnt bring a gift...but saved....I grabbed my left over cupcakes on my way out of the house and brought them....so I was able to give her something. The rest of the night was full of great convesation and food. I feel as though I am thriving and not surviving!!! Driving down the streets of Kampala you are bound to hit Boda (picture above). They are careless, weaving in and out of traffic, and obeying no traffic laws (like we have much to begin here). So I knew a time would come when I would face the day of tak'n down a boda. That day came a little sooner than I thought. Just yesterday I was turning into a parking lot, with my indicator (blinker) on, going pretty slow when all of the sudden outta no where out pops a boda and on the wrong side of the road. I just tipped the bike (or did he run into me?) and another bites the dust. He walked away with a scrap on his arm, a broken rearview mirror, and a broken kickstand. The gaurd for the shopping plaza came over and agreed with me that it was his fault and he was careless driving on the wrong side of the road. So he told me to just give him 10,000 shillings and send him on his way.
Lord grant me success in reaching the next generation….. |
